NCCCO Foundation Recruitment Tool

Developed by the NCCCO Foundation in collaboration with communications and consulting firm, SmallBox, the recruitment playbook is designed to support a shift from what has been historically personal, and word-of-mouth connections to long-term, scalable, and targeted recruitment strategies for the crane industry.

The playbook is grounded in research, operator insights, and real-world testing, providing a practical framework for expanding outreach while honoring the values, responsibilities, and skill requirements of the profession.

Recruitment playbook for the crane industry published: The NCCCO Foundation publishes innovative tool to help the crane industry strategically recruit new employees.

Rather than focusing solely on job titles or credentials, the toolkit emphasizes core attributes that consistently align with successful operators such as problem solving, focus, accountability, and attention to detail. Insights into recruitment strategies for three important audiences, women in trades, truck drivers with CDLs, and construction workers in transition, are provided in the playbook as well specific tools for the recruitment of each.

The NCCCO Foundation and the National Safety Council (NSC), through its Work to Zero initiative, partnered to develop a free online tool to assist companies and individuals using cranes and other load-handling equipment to improve jobsite safety.

“The playbook is a first for the crane industry by providing not only well-founded and tested strategies for recruiting quality employees, but also sharing free messaging, images, and videos to implement the strategy,” said T.J. Cantwell, Executive Director of the NCCCO Foundation.

“It’s intended for anyone recruiting for the crane industry including contractors, crane companies, training providers, unions, and other workforce partners,” Cantwell continued.
