MHI Raises $5k for One Generation Away

During its recent Spring Meeting in Houston, Texas, MHI helped raise $5,000 for the charity One Generation Away, while also promoting environmental sustainability.

The funds were raised through Fill it Forward, a sustainability initiative that encouraged attendees to use reusable water bottles instead of single-use plastics. For each bottle refilled, a donation is generated for charity. This impactful program was generously sponsored by MHI member company Designed Conveyor Systems (DCS).

MHI’s total involvement with the Fill it Forward Initiative has had measurable environmental impacts, including:

  • 33.4 pounds of waste diverted
  • 630.5 kWh power saved
  • 6.9 pounds of ocean pollution prevented
  • 1,080.6 emissions saved

Thanks to this collective effort, MHI donated $5,000 to One Generation Away. With a mission “to share hope, honor, and dignity through food,” this nonprofit rescues high-quality surplus food from such sources as grocery stores and restaurants and redistributes it to people experiencing food insecurity.

MHI provides educational, business development, networking and solution sourcing opportunities.

Looking ahead, MHI will continue its commitment to sustainability and social impact at the upcoming WERC Annual Conference, taking place June 8-11 in New Orleans.

Proceeds from that Fill it Forward Initiative will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans.
