Toyota Material Handling\u00a0(TMH)<\/a> has announced that\u00a0Jeff Rufener, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), will retire at the end of the month. The company has selected Senior Vice President of Sales\u00a0Bill Finerty\u00a0to succeed Rufener effective\u00a0January 1, 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of the entire Toyota<\/a> family, we would like to thank Jeff for his leadership and impact during his 10 years with the company,\u201d said\u00a0Brett Wood,\u00a0President and CEO of\u00a0Toyota Material Handling\u00a0North America<\/a>\u00a0and Senior Executive Officer of\u00a0Toyota<\/a> Industries Corporation (TICO). \u201cJeff led TMH<\/a> through some of the largest, most transformational challenges in history, and he did so with grace, with empathy, and with compassion. He embraced each challenge, and always saw the positive opportunity in change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rufener joined TMH<\/a> in 2011 after more than 30 years with Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America. During his tenure at TMH<\/a>,\u00a0Rufener oversaw the move of the company\u2019s headquarters from\u00a0California\u00a0to\u00a0Indiana\u00a0and multiple expansions of TMH<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Indiana\u00a0campus. Rufener also managed the integration of Toyota<\/a>\u2019s two\u00a0Columbus-based companies \u2013 Toyota Material Handling\u00a0USA\u00a0(TMHU)<\/a> and Toyota<\/a> Industrial Equipment Manufacturing (TIEM) \u2013 into a single company in 2020.<\/p>\n

Jeff Rufener, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), will retire at the end of the month.<\/p><\/div>\n

During Rufener\u2019s tenure, TICO made key strategic acquisitions such as Bastian Solutions\u00a0and\u00a0Vanderlande\u00a0to enter the automation sector;\u00a0Toyota<\/a> Commercial Finance\u00a0and\u00a0Hoist\u00a0to expand Toyota<\/a>\u2019s heavy-duty lift truck offering. Rufener also helped TMH<\/a> round out its product offering with the launch of many new electric models to ensure the organization continues to lead for decades to come.<\/p>\n

Rufener has always been a respected leader in the material handling industry, previously serving as the President of the\u00a0Industrial Truck Association\u00a0(ITA) and as the first Chairman of the\u00a0National Forklift Safety Day\u00a0taskforce.<\/p>\n

Rufener also championed the company\u2019s partnership with the\u00a0American Red Cross\u00a0and has passionately helped it grow over the last several years, serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the\u00a0Southeast Indiana\u00a0chapter. Since 2018,\u00a0TMH<\/a>\u2019s partnership with the Red Cross\u00a0has resulted in corporate, dealer and associate support that includes donations of rental equipment, time, expertise, money and in some cases, blood donations, as part of the growing relationship between the two organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of Jeff\u2019s lasting legacies will be the culture he helped build and sustain, a culture centered around the company\u2019s core purpose of \u2018Helping People Carry the Load\u2019,\u201d Wood said. \u201cToyota<\/a> is better because of Jeff, and the material handling industry is better because of Jeff. We wish Jeff and his family a very relaxing, healthy and safe retirement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Added Rufener: \u201cIt has been an honor to serve as TMH<\/a> President & CEO, and I want to offer a sincere thank you to our associates, dealers, suppliers and customers whose hard work and dedication have allowed us to achieve great things. When I joined Toyota<\/a>, I thought I was taking the best job in the forklift industry. Ten years later, I can tell you I know it\u2019s the best job in the industry. This brand, this culture, this product line, and this group of Toyota dealers \u2013 all of those things make it the best position I could ever ask for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finerty will take over for Rufener after more than five years leading the company\u2019s sales teams. As Senior VP of Sales, Finerty also oversaw the TMH<\/a> customer network and dealer network development, and he chairs the board of directors for TMH<\/a>\u2019s equity-owned dealerships and the company\u2019s Heavy Duty Division.<\/p>\n

Under Finerty\u2019s leadership, TMH<\/a> has reached records in sales, profit and market share.<\/p>\n

Finerty has more than 30 years of industry involvement and previously held several executive leadership roles at Caterpillar, Inc.<\/p>\n

His leadership style fits our culture perfectly, and he has a passion to help Toyota succeed in everything we do. It will be difficult for anyone to fill Jeff\u2019s shoes, but I\u2019m confident that Bill is prepared to succeed in this role, and the transition will be smooth because we are promoting from within.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaksa Pejnovic\u00a0will succeed Finerty to become TMH<\/a>\u2019s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, also effective\u00a0January 1. Pejnovic has been with Toyota since 2013 and joined the TMH<\/a> executive team in 2016 as the Director of Finance, Pricing and Strategic Planning. Prior to joining TMH<\/a>, Pejnovic spent 12 years at CNO Financial Group in a number of finance and accounting positions.<\/p>\n
