Dematic<\/a>, an intralogistics company, has helped a grocer respond to COVID-19 with software that enables social distancing.<\/p>\n

Demand for online grocery has reached unprecedented heights due to COVID-19 as people everywhere adhere to social distancing and shelter-in-place directives, with\u00a0e-grocery\u00a0site visits up 146% from just February to March 2020.<\/p>\n

In direct response, Dematic<\/a> quickly developed a dedicated software\u00a0update\u00a0for a leading grocery customer, empowering them to\u00a0continue\u00a0addressing\u00a0online demand surges while\u00a0ensuring\u00a0critical safety measures for its front-line workers.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0software\u00a0update was\u00a0developed\u00a0by software engineers from Digital Applications International Limited (DAI)\u00a0\u2015\u00a0a UK-based company\u00a0acquired by Dematic<\/a> in February 2020\u00a0that\u00a0specialises\u00a0in\u00a0logistics software solutions.\u00a0It took the team only a day to\u00a0create the\u00a0update\u00a0and\u00a0less than three days to\u00a0implement it\u00a0across the grocer\u2019s entire network.<\/p>\n

\u201cDematic<\/a>\u00a0has always been\u00a0focused on helping our customers\u00a0respond quickly to\u00a0critical business challenges\u00a0\u2015 it\u2019s at the core of what we do,\u201d said Hasan Dandashly, CEO, Dematic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how\u00a0the update\u00a0works:\u00a0When a picker is assigned an order, the software\u00a0indicates the aisles that contain the\u00a0items.\u00a0This is\u00a0standard.\u00a0But\u00a0now\u00a0the\u00a0operator can\u00a0indicate\u00a0that an aisle or bay is\u00a0already occupied\u00a0so\u00a0the picker\u00a0can move quickly to\u00a0an open aisle,\u00a0which helps\u00a0ensure proper\u00a0social distances.\u00a0In addition\u00a0to\u00a0employee safety, the\u00a0update\u00a0also\u00a0improves\u00a0efficiency with pickers no longer\u00a0having to wait\u00a0for aisles\u00a0or areas\u00a0to clear.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
