Chosen by an independent panel of judges, the companies received notice of their awards in March 2020 for projects that were topped out in either 2018 or 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExpanding the scope of the submission criteria to a 24-month window greatly increased the number of completed project submissions we received,\u201d said Alan Sears, Awards Committee Chairman. \u201cThis provides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/item\/steel-erectors-association-america\/\">SEAA<\/a> members with an opportunity to showcase their most interesting, and often most challenging, structural steel erection work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cErectors work closely with fabrication, engineering, and general contractors in roles that often require revisiting the drawing board to customize rigging or material handling devices, collaborate on more efficient connection methods, or devise better fall protection systems to safely keep projects on schedule and on budget. These award-winning projects are good examples of that ingenuity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Project of the Year winners are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ropac Inc. for Troy Wellness building at Troy University, Troy, Ala.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>(Class I for erection contracts up to $525,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A Wellness Center located at the main entrance of Troy University campus required that work be performed with as little disruption as possible to daily activities. Space constraints and flooding made execution even more difficult. It changes direction twice is made of exposed pipe. Public safety was a major concern, with little room to work on the signature feature over a busy four-lane road with no center pier. The judge panel reported: &#8220;Planning was key on this project.\u00a0 Williams Steel Erection Company was able to successfully propose and implement an alternate erection plan to accommodate the complicated geometry and urban setting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7802\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7802\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7802\" src=\"https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston-440x248.jpg 440w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston-650x366.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston-578x325.jpg 578w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class2-Williams-Ballston-676x380.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7802\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Public safety was a major concern, with little room to work on the signature feature over a busy four-lane road with no center pier.<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Alliance Riggers &amp; Constructors for Bel Air High School, El Paso, Texas<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>(Class III for $1 million to $2.5 million)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A new multi-level arts and sports complex for Ysleta Independent School District replaced an existing single level gym within the same restricted location. \u201cLong spans and heavy trusses defined this project.\u00a0Floor trusses were 127&#8242; long, and roof trusses were 177&#8242; long, weighing up to 60 tons each.\u00a0Temporary bracing and guying were also critical components of this project,\u201d summarized the judge panel. Successful execution required close coordination with the fabricator and engineering firms to properly plan erection and fabrication sequencing.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7803\" style=\"width: 2010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7803\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7803\" src=\"https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir-440x248.jpg 440w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir-650x366.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir-578x325.jpg 578w, https:\/\/www.findadistributor.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Class3-Alliance-BelAir-676x380.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7803\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Temporary bracing and guying were critical components of this project.<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Peterson Beckner Industries for Kinder Building at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>(Class IV for over $2.5 million)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing ordinary about this structure,\u201d said the judge panel of the Museum of Fine Arts, Kinder Building. Floor framing consists of two levels of geometrically complicated heavy wide flange composite structure. The roof is an intricate weaving of sloped and swept pipe trusses, infilled with sloped and rolled wide flange beams to form a network of concave roof sections. Primary challenges included erection phasing of the composite floor level framing and in-depth sequencing of the complex roof framing. (Class IV)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Capital One Hall will be used to host Capital One corporate events. The steel scope consisted of more than 3,000 tons of structural steel, including long and short span trusses, heavy plate girders, large box columns, grand stairs, and elaborate round pipe.
