The NCCCO<\/a> Foundation has launched a web-based tool designed to help employers navigate OSHA\u2019s rules on crane operator qualifications.<\/p>\n

The tool\u2014a directory of accredited crane operator certification programs entitled the Who\u2019s Accredited? Directory\u2014is the result of the NCCCO<\/a>\u2019s Foundation\u2019s research and education initiative designed to enhance safety and encourage compliance with federal and state safety rules and regulations, said NCCCO<\/a> Foundation CEO, Graham Brent.<\/p>\n

The Who\u2019s Accredited? Directory is designed to take the guesswork out of determining whether or not a certification organization\u2019s programs are accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body, as OSHA requires in 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC.\u00a0 By following the link on the NCCCO<\/a> Foundation\u2019s website at http:\/\/bit.ly\/whosaccredited employers can check the accreditation status of any certification organization at any time.<\/p>\n

The Directory also provides a detailed listing of each accredited certification program offered by the accredited certification organizations, as well as a direct link to the listing maintained by the two accrediting bodies that OSHA recognizes: ANSI and NCCA.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s become clear from the questions we have been receiving from employers and others in recent months that there is confusion in the industry over which certification bodies have earned accreditation and which have not,\u201d said Brent.\u00a0 That\u2019s important, he said, because not only is a certification body that has not been accredited not recognized by Federal and State authorities, neither are the certifications it issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccreditation is a rigorous and often protracted process,\u201d Brent added, \u201cwhich usually demands a \u201cfull-court press\u201d by the applying organization\u2019s certification team to demonstrate that their certifications comply with the exacting standards established to ensure fair and reliable assessments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also like certification, accreditation is not a \u201cone-time\u201d event.\u00a0 Just as a certification lasts only a certain amount of time, so accreditation is reviewed on a regular basis by the accrediting organization, usually annually, Brent added.\u00a0 \u201cThat means, just like a certification, an accreditation can be suspended, or even removed at any time.\u201d<\/p>\n

By facilitating access to training and certification by youth, veterans and underserved communities through scholarships and grants, the Foundation seeks to ensure a safe and skilled future workforce.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cAnd to be clear, just because an organization may have applied for accreditation does not mean they are accredited,\u201d he said. In most cases it takes an accrediting body many months of review and often continuing dialogue with the certification body before accreditation is granted, observed Brent who was a charter member of ANSI\u2019s Personnel Certification Accreditation Committee (PCAC) which makes the final decision as to which certification organizations become accredited.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf a certification organization is not listed in the Directory, it\u2019s not accredited, it\u2019s that simple,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
