The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) in the USA has ordered a fleet of 20 Konecranes<\/a> rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes for the Port of Savannah, Georgia. When these cranes are operational, the Port of Savannah will operate a total of 178 Konecranes RTGs.\u00a0Konecranes booked the order in the first quarter.<\/p>\n

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) owns and operates the Port of Savannah. It is the largest, fastest-growing container terminal in North America and its current fleet of 158 RTG cranes is the largest of its kind in the USA with 12 RTGs on delivery during 2019.<\/p>\n

Chris Novack, Senior Director of Engineering & Facilities Maintenance, GPA, commented: \u201cThe GPA is thrilled to continue our strategic partnership with the purchase of twenty additional RTGs from Konecranes<\/a>. The quality of their equipment and the technical support that they provide is second to none.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jussi Suhonen, Regional Sales Director Americas, Konecranes<\/a> Port Solutions, said: \u201cThe Savannah Harbor Expansion Project is moving ahead on schedule. The amazing growth of the Port of Savannah continues. Its positive effect on the economies of Georgia and the entire US eastern seaboard keeps growing. This port was the first to take delivery of a Konecranes<\/a> RTG back in 1995. When the RTGs currently on order are delivered, the port\u2019s Konecranes<\/a> RTG fleet will be 178 strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

When these cranes are operational, the Port of Savannah will operate a total of 178 Konecranes RTGs.<\/p><\/div>\n

The 20 RTGs on order are diesel-electric machines with cable reel readiness for electric operation. They are high-performance, 16-wheel RTGs with a lifting capacity of 50 tons, a stacking height of 1-over-5, and a stacking width of 6 plus truck lane wide. They will be equipped with Konecranes<\/a>\u2019 Active Load Control system, which prevents container sway. The Auto-steering feature is included, which keeps the cranes on a pre-programmed, straight driving path.
