Westfalia Technologies Inc.<\/a>, a provider of logistics solutions for plants, warehouses and distribution centers since 1992, has won its third consecutive Green Supply Chain Award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive. Westfalia<\/a> has been recognized for helping customers execute green supply chain strategies through its \u201cGo Green with High Density\u201d warehouse automation solutions that allow clients to minimize building footprint, lower energy usage and reduce waste production.<\/p>\n

Dan Labell, president of Westfalia Technologies<\/a>, said: “For more than 20 years, Westfalia has been committed to helping manufacturers and distributors apply innovative technologies, like our automated storage and retrieval systems (AS\/RS), as a means of not only improving operational efficiency, but also minimizing their supply chains\u2019 environmental impact. Today\u2019s businesses understand that implementing \u2018green\u2019 initiatives into supply chains is no longer just a trend, it is a best practice.\u201d<\/p>\n

By implementing Westfalia<\/a>\u2019s AS\/RS in an existing building, companies can increase storage capacity by 30 to 50%. When implementing an AS\/RS as new construction, the storage area, or footprint, can be dramatically reduced by up to 400%, depending on the building height.<\/p>\n

A reduction in square footage leads to an average energy cost savings of 40% due to fewer interior lights, smaller wall penetrations for product movement to and from the AS\/RS, and less space to heat and cool. And, with a lifespan of 25 to 30-plus years, Westfalia<\/a>\u2019s AS\/RS makes these savings sustainable well into the future. In addition, the operational accuracies provided by the company\u2019s warehouse execution system (WES), Savanna.NET, virtually eliminate product waste, errors and damage.<\/p>\n

The Green Supply Chain Award recognizes companies who make \u201cgoing green\u201d or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy, and are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains. The awards also recognize providers of supply chain solutions and services assisting their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur honorees are showing that the bottom line and corporate responsibility are not mutually exclusive,\u201d said Ronnie Garrett, editor of Supply & Demand Chain Executive. \u201cThis has been increasingly evident over the past few years and is relatively clear with the large number of entries we received this year\u2014almost 200\u2014for our annual green awards. Sustainability has, for these companies, become a key part of their supply chain strategies.\u201d<\/p>\n
