The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA)<\/a> is inviting completed surveys from stakeholders involved in procurement decision-making, as a new white paper takes shape ahead of publication on Global Lifting Awareness Day (GLAD<\/a>) on Thursday 2 July 2026. The theme for GLAD is, \u2018Not all lifting equipment is created equal\u2019 and LEEA<\/a>, with members in over 80 countries, is bifocal in conducting a global spring survey campaign, with product suppliers and those making buying decisions central to the body of research. A questionnaire has been delivered with the message that the most consequential decision in a lifting operation happens before anything is lifted \u2014 at the point of purchase.<\/p>\n

Lifting accessories and equipment are routinely purchased without the grade information, environmental constraints or duty rating data that determines whether a product is actually suitable for the application it will be used in. When procurement decisions are made on load rating alone, the gap between what the documentation says and what the operation needs is where the risk sits.<\/p>\n

Global Lifting Awareness Day 2026 \u2014 #GLAD2026 \u2014 will be powered by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) on Thursday 2 July.<\/p><\/div>\n

Global consultation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Matt Barber, director of membership at LEEA<\/a>, said: \u201cWe are running a global consultation on product marking and documentation. We are building a white paper presenting the findings of a worldwide consultation, establishing, for the first time, an industry consensus on best practice for the sourcing and procurement of lifting equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The survey takes just five minutes and answers are anonymous. Barber urged all recipients to take part, reminded that the evidence shows that three things happen when documentation fails: equipment is used beyond its environmental limits; components are not recognised as lifting equipment; slings are selected without grade verification. Significantly, this is a global pattern.<\/p>\n

Barber added: \u201cOur end goal is to bring suppliers and buyers together on 2 July to make a collective pledge to do better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a series of LEEA<\/a> Roundtables continues apace, co-located with the association\u2019s Regional Events and industry conventions. Confirmation of the seventh staging of GLAD<\/a> has energised conversations in the UK\u2019s Midlands, Aberdeen, Warrington, Southampton, and Glasgow. The topic for these Roundtables has been specifically chosen to line-up with GLAD<\/a>. Roundtables serve as a platform for free-flowing discussion around the central message in advance.<\/p>\n

GLAD<\/a> is a widely celebrated day where manufacturers, suppliers and end users are among those that share material that promotes safe and high quality load lifting. Social media posts, videos, articles, and in-person activity will again be bound together by the hashtag, #GLAD2026.<\/p>\n
