Longstanding customer Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) in New Jersey has ordered 20 Hybrid Konecranes<\/a> Noell Straddle Carriers equipped with eco-efficient hybrid drives. The order was booked in Q4 2025 and the carriers will be delivered in Q4 2026.<\/p>\n

PNCT is one of the largest container terminals on the US East Coast. Its entire straddle carrier fleet is made up of Konecranes<\/a> Noell straddle carriers, with over 200 orders and counting. After introducing its first hybrid models in July 2022 and seeing strong performance, PNCT is now making its second significant investment in expanding its hybrid fleet. The terminal purchased 15 hybrid straddle carriers from Konecranes<\/a> in Q4 2024.<\/p>\n

Each of the 20 new straddle carriers features Konecranes<\/a> hybrid-drive technology, combining a diesel genset with a rechargeable battery. This delivers the proven performance of Konecranes<\/a> Noell straddle carriers, with less diesel consumption and lower emissions. The new machines will be used for ship-to-shore container operations at the quayside, stacking activities and the loading and unloading of trucks and rail wagons.<\/p>\n

\u201cPNCT has been operating Konecranes<\/a> Noell straddle carriers for decades and we are convinced by their performance and reliability. We\u2019ve already seen the benefits of the company\u2019s hybrid drives, and this new investment is aimed at further reducing fuel consumption and operating with even higher efficiency overall,\u201d says\u00a0Charlie Ferlisi, Director of Engineering & Equipment Services at PNCT.<\/p>\n

Reflecting the close ties with PNCT, Konecranes<\/a> operates a major service location including a comprehensively equipped warehouse of\u00a0spare parts near Port Newark so it can better support PNCT’s operations. PNCT also uses Konecranes<\/a> Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes, as well as Konecranes<\/a> reach stackers.<\/p>\n
