CMCO Offers Magnetek IMPULSE Adjustable Frequency Drives on Electric Wire Rope Hoists

Columbus McKinnon Corporation (CMCO), a designer and manufacturer of motion control products, technologies, and services for material handling, is now offering additional Magnetek IMPULSE adjustable frequency drives for multiple motions on its Yale YK and Shaw-Box SK electric wire rope hoists, available for the U.S. market.

Combining Magnetek’s adjustable frequency drives with Yale YK and Shaw-Box SK monorail units creates a one-of-a-kind, intelligent solution for lifting applications.

Magnetek, a wholly owned subsidiary of Columbus McKinnon, specially designed the IMPULSE series of adjustable frequency drives with a complete package of crane-specific capabilities far beyond general purpose drive functionality. Magnetek’s IMPULSE adjustable frequency drives are smart solutions that can continuously monitor many environmental and functional components on a crane, such as motor temperature, end of travel and slow down limits, brake functionality, motor speed, and more. Continuous system monitoring reduces the potential for failures, minimizes downtime, and provides additional safety.

For the Yale YK and Shaw-Box SK trolley motion, the IMPULSE·G+ Mini adjustable frequency drive expands speed adjustments, improves load control, offers high duty cycles, and increases hoist life. The IMPULSE·G+ Mini offers a compact design with standard programming for basic applications or advanced programming for high-performance environments.

The IMPULSE·VG+ Series 4 adjustable frequency drive paired with a continuous duty hoist motor provides reliable, user-friendly control and industry-leading features to keep operators working safely. Both the IMPULSE·G+ Mini and IMPULSE·VG+ Series 4 drives are available on Yale YK and Shaw-Box SK monorail configurations up to 15 tons, as well as crane kit configurations up to 15 tons. Columbus McKinnon’s U.S. Channel Partners can configure and quote Yale YK and Shaw-Box SK on Compass, the Company’s online product configurator.

Standard hoist motion features include Encoder Feedback for safe load control, Dynamic Braking to reduce brake pad wear and tear, Torque Proving at Start and Brake Check at Stop for added safety, Load Float to increase hoist lift response time, Short Circuit Protection to assist with failure prevention, and Phase Loss Detection to maintain safe hoist states. Additional features for hoist motion can be configured by users, such as Load Check II, Programmable Limit Switches, Ultra-Lift, Anti-Shock, Slack Cable Detection, and Micro-Speed.
